It was my first time working with London-based creative production company ‘Studio YES’, and their director Sam Ojari. We went out to the Caribbean for 9 days and visited 2 beautiful Belmond resorts, one in St. Martin and the other on Anguilla, to shoot 3 films: 1 property film for each resort, and 1 overarching film about the ethos of Belmond supported by and starring the wonderful Naomie Harris.
Despite being in such beautiful locations, and spoiled with fantastic views and pristine beaches, the shoot wasn’t without its challenges. We had to shoot around both resorts going through their refurbishments, which meant structuring our time well was extremely important. Also, from an aerial perspective, Anguilla was almost constantly battered by strong winds, which made it tricky to get those beautiful smooth shots. However the Inspire 2 handled it impressively, and shooting ProRess 422 cropped in for 50fps I was able to get some great helicopter-esque shots with great perspective shifts. I also assisted our DoP Yannick Hausler who made light work of shooting on a RED with anamorphic lenses, jumping back and forth from handheld to Movi rig. Thankfully we were able to get everything we needed, all in time for some well-deserved rum punch.
